New enhancements to EduData Report Cards to help teachers, parents and students make informed decisions about education in Florida

At the September 23rd State Board of Education meeting, the Department of Education highlighted Florida’s education reports portal, EduData, a robust resource that provides educational information about how schools are performing compared to the district and state. The tool’s State, District, and School Report Cards include the most recent data available for important school indicators, interactive maps that allow parents to find schools and compare key indicators, and provides greater transparency into the educational outcomes used in Florida’s school grading system.

The department is excited to announce some new report card features. One feature highlights third grade achievement in English language arts as a key performance indicator for students. The second feature provides a subgroup summary based on district or school grade components. Both features allow educators and parents to understand how Florida’s diverse student groups are doing in key education areas by applying the same scale used in the school grading system.

To access these new features, select “View District/School Performance Components” button located directly under the District or School Performance Grade on a report card. The default view displays the overall grade and components along with the overall “Grade 3 English Language Arts Achievement,” if applicable, for a school.  This display is dynamic and changes as the user selects different subgroups using the “Selected Subgroup” dropdown list. The “School/District Grade Subgroup Summary” button provides the performance of subgroups compared to the Overall Grade. While reviewing this data, it is important to keep in mind that the outcomes provided are based on 2018-19 school grades and assessment results because testing and school grades were suspended for the 2019-20 school year due to COVID-19.

In addition to these new features, the report cards also provide the following information: the overall summative rating (district grade, school grade or school improvement rating); the breakdown of each component in the overall rating; whether a school is identified for support and detailed reasons for the identification; academic achievement, growth and participation, including alternate assessment participation; English Language Leaners’ proficiency and progress; middle school and college and career acceleration; discipline and attendance; graduation and postsecondary continuation; long-term goals and interim progress; accelerated course enrollment; preschool enrollment; educator qualifications and equity; per-pupil expenditures; and national assessment data.

A Map and Compare Schools tool may be accessed using the “Report Cards” dropdown menu or from the EduData Portal page. This tool is particularly helpful for parents exploring school choice options or for those who are relocating and wish to learn more about the schools in a particular district, city or zip code.

News and updates about ongoing enhancements will be provided to those who subscribe through the portal. For more information about School, District and State Report Cards or the EduData portal, please email BITeam@fldoe.org or call 850-245-0437.
