Commissioner Pam Stewart Names Finalists For Florida School-Related Employee Of The Year

~ Award recognizes outstanding school support personnel ~

Tallahassee, Fla., April 9, 2015 – Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart today announced the five finalists for the statewide 2015 Florida School-Related Employee of the Year award. This award recognizes outstanding education support personnel for the significant contributions they make to their schools and communities.

“School support personnel are a critical component of providing Florida students with a high-quality education,” said Commissioner Stewart. “I congratulate our statewide finalists on a job well done and thank them for all they do to help students succeed.”

The finalists are:

  • Christopher Gates, technology specialist at Broward Virtual School in Broward County Public Schools;
  • Shaunda Burdette, teacher aide at the District Service Center’s Educational Services Department in Citrus County Schools;
  • Stacey Fuhrman, vision paraprofessional at Citrus Grove Elementary School in Martin County School District;
  • Mark Nelson, uniformed security officer at Acceleration Academy West High School in Orange County Public Schools; and
  • Cheryl Thomas, relief bus driver and training assistant at the Coachman Service Center in Pinellas County Schools.

The statewide winner will be announced in late April at the annual Florida School-Related Employee Finalists’ Awards Breakfast. The top school-related employee will be presented with $1,000 in cash and tickets to Universal Orlando theme parks. Finalists receive a $500 cash prize and tickets to Universal Orlando theme parks.
