State Board of Education Votes to Approve Pensacola State College’s New Bachelor of Applied Science in Cybersecurity

Tallahassee, Fla., January 7, 2016 – During the State Board of Education meeting yesterday in Tallahassee, the State Board of Education voted in favor to approve a new Bachelor of Applied Science in Cybersecurity for Pensacola State College. 

Chancellor of the Florida College System Madeline Pumariega said, “I am pleased and excited by the board’s unanimous vote to allow Pensacola State College to begin offering the Bachelor of Applied Science in Cybersecurity. This degree has been identified by industry partners to educate and train students to meet the specific workforce needs and demonstrates the Florida College System’s continued commitment to preparing students for 21st century jobs.”

Dr. Ed Meadows, President of Pensacola State College said, “The approval of the Cybersecurity bachelor’s degree for Pensacola State College by the Florida State Board of Education further enhances the opportunities for North West Florida's cybersecurity industries to expand their workforce, and further assists the efforts of the economic development agencies in Northwest Florida in the recruitment of future cyber security firms.  We will continue to work with our secondary school systems to further develop opportunities for students to seek careers in this high demand, high wage and rapidly growing industry.”

“The Pensacola Sate College Bachelor of Applied Science in Cybersecurity was designed around industry and Department of Homeland Security standards,” said Jim McClellan the Director of Marketing at AppRiver in Gulf Breeze, Florida, and chairman of Innovation Coast. “This well thought-out degree meets the huge need for highly skilled individuals at the bachelors level, and the students will come out of this program able to hit the ground running.”
