Department of Education Thanks Business Partners for Supporting Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!
~ Generous contributions helped made week-long celebration successful ~

Tallahassee, Fla., January 29, 2016 – Yesterday, the winners of the 2016 Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! literacy-civics school service projects were announced. The contest award ceremony concluded a week-long celebration of literacy and reading in Florida schools. Thanks to the generous contributions of business partners and sponsors, the celebration and awards ceremony were a tremendous success.

“My thanks to the sponsors of Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! for their generosity and thoughtfulness,” said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. “We are very appreciative of their commitment to reading and literacy that helps every student get a quality education and prepare for college and a career.”

The contest reflected this year’s theme, “Literacy Changes Our World,” and focused on literacy-civics school service projects that highlight the impact reading and literacy can have on civic engagement. Students organized a literacy-based project with teachers and community partners, and provided evidence that their project had a positive impact on their school, neighborhood and/or community. The winning projects will be featured on the Just Read, Florida! website and the Department of Education’s social media pages.

Participating Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! sponsor contributions made the annual celebration and contest awards possible.
