Over the next few months, the First Lady will travel throughout the state to encourage Florida students to read and visit their local libraries during the upcoming summer break. The 2016 Summer Literacy Adventure is a partnership between First Lady Ann Scott, Florida Department of Education (FDOE), the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the Florida Lottery.

Research shows that children who do not continue reading through the summer can lose a month or more of progress made during the school year. By encouraging their children to read, parents are playing a critical role in achieving Florida’s goal of having every child reading at or above grade level. Children can pledge to make summer reading a real-life adventure here.
