Gov. Scott Recognizes Seven Educators with the Governor’s Shine Award
Tallahassee, Fla., - Today, during a meeting of Florida’s Cabinet, Governor Rick Scott recognized seven outstanding educators with the Governor’s Shine Award. The Shine Award is presented to teachers and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education.
The following educators were presented with the Governor’s Shine Award:
Kyle Dencker, Orange County – Kyle Dencker has been teaching Computer Science at Timber Creek High School for 11 years, and he currently has more than 300 students in the computer science program. Kyle is the recipient of the National Center for Women and Information Technology Aspirations in Computing Educator Award in 2013 and 2017, and is a 2019 Teacher of the Year State Finalist.
Mollie Winters Diallo, Miami-Dade County – An experienced educator with 21 years’ experience, Mollie Winters Diallo teaches Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography, AP Psychology and Honors U.S. History at Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School. She is a national board certified educator and is a 2019 Teacher of the Year State Finalist.
Patrick Farley, Martin County – With six years teaching experience, Patrick Farley teaches English Language Arts and STEM to gifted 4th grade students at Crystal Lake Elementary School. Patrick is a 2019 Teacher of the Year State Finalist.
Samantha Neff, Seminole County – A veteran educator with 18 years’ experience, Samantha Neff is an Instructional Math Coach at Idyllwilde Elementary School. She also teaches reading, science and social studies. Samantha is a 2019 Teacher of the Year State Finalist.
Joy Prescott, Glades County – Joy Prescott teaches 4th grade math at Pemayetv Emahakv Charter School and has 17 years teaching experience. Joy is the 2019 State Teacher of the Year.
Jackie Ramsey, Orange County – Jackie Ramsey is the 2017-18 State Assistant Principal of the Year. Since she was named Assistant Principal of the Year, she was promoted to Principal at Carver Middle School, where through her exceptional leadership and dedication, the school improved its letter grade from an F to a C.
Ken Savage, Leon County – Ken Savage is the 2017-18 State Principal of the Year. He was selected when he was principal at James Stephens International Academy in Lee County and was recognized for his success in improving the school’s grade from an F to a B. Since then, Ken has been appointed Principal in Residence with the Florida Department of Education, where he supports school district and school turnaround leaders through leadership development and professional learning.
