Fire Science Programs Recognized for Good Return on Investment

Tallahassee, Fla., September 4, 2013 - Nine Florida College System (FCS) institutions were recognized by Fire Science Online for providing the best return on investment to fire science graduates. Fire Science Online ranked the top 90 programs in the U.S. on which programs best prepare students for a successful future working in their field.

"Students pursuing their education in a Florida College System institution are investing in their futures," said FCS Chancellor Randy Hanna. "I am proud Fire Science Online acknowledged how a high-quality education provided by nine of our colleges can help students get great jobs."

Nine FCS institutions appeared in the top 90.

  • Hillsborough Community College (39)
  • Eastern Florida State College (40)
  • Florida State College at Jacksonville (42)
  • Gulf Coast State College (43)
  • Chipola College (51)
  • Miami Dade College (52)
  • Indian River State College (53)
  • Edison State College (55)
  • Daytona State College (58)

Fire Science Online identified programs with the highest return on investment using national salary, tuition, enrollment and accreditation data. The list recognizes the institutions with affordable tuition rates in states where graduates go on to earn high-wage jobs.

"Students and families deserve to know how education in the Florida College System is tied to jobs," said Chancellor Hanna. "I commend our colleges for offering high-quality, affordable fire science programs that provide a good return on investment for graduates."

The FCS shares graduation rates, employment statistics and earnings data for all programs through the Smart College Choices web portal.
