Bay County School Employee Earns Top Honors

Tallahassee, Fla., May 17, 2013 - A Bay County school employee is being recognized for her outstanding work and support of student learning. Sue Mullen is Florida's 2013 School-Related Employee of the Year. The announcement took place this morning at LEGOLAND® Florida in Winter Haven. Commissioner of Education Dr. Tony Bennett, several leaders from the Florida Department of Education and superintendents were on hand to show their support.

"Sue Mullen is a great example of how everyone plays a part in ensuring our children get the highest quality education possible," said Commissioner Bennett. "It takes all hands on deck to give students the best chance at a bright future and this award is a great opportunity to show our gratitude for Sue's exemplary job performance."

Sue Mullen was selected as the 2013 School-Related Employee of the Year from the top five finalists across the state. She is a data-entry manager at both Hutchinson Beach Elementary School and Breakfast Point Academy with 30 years of experience. Mullen has also served as chair of her school's Relay for Life team for the past 12 years, raising more than $112,000. She also started the Carrabba's Annual Dinner Fundraiser for JR Arnold High School Baseball teams, which has raised more than $70,000.

Other finalists include Susan McVeigh, an exceptional student education parent specialist in Flagler County; Jennifer Seidenstucker, a bookkeeper in Palm Beach County; Debra Stotts, an office clerk in Pinellas County; and Eric Henik, a plant manager in St. Lucie County. Finalists win $500 and tickets to LEGOLAND Florida. Mullen receives $1,000 for winning the top award, $500 for being a finalist and tickets to LEGOLAND Florida.

LEGOLAND Florida is a 150-acre, two-day interactive theme park designed specifically for families with children ages 2-12. The largest LEGOLAND Park in the world, it features more than 50 family rides, shows and attractions, water parks, restaurants, shopping, a water park and beautiful historic botanical garden.
