Governor Scott Concludes Teacher Pay Raise Pep Rally Tour

Tampa, Fla - Governor Rick Scott today completed his Teacher Pay Raise Pep Rally Tour celebrating $480 million for teacher pay raises at Alexander Elementary School in Hillsborough County.

Governor Rick Scott said, "Visiting schools across the state to celebrate the $480 million victory for teacher pay raises was the perfect way to spend National Teacher Appreciation Week. The love and support for our teachers demonstrated by students, community members and legislators this week directly reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers, reiterating the importance of this well-deserved pay raise."

The $480 million in teacher pay raises allows districts the flexibility to develop their own plan to award the greatest number of teachers the largest teacher pay raise possible, in coordination with their collective bargaining agreements. Earlier this week, Governor Scott visited Piper High School in Broward County, Wynnebook Elementary School in Palm Beach County, Nease High School in St. Johns County and Ocoee Middle School in Orange County.

Commissioner of Education Dr. Tony Bennett said, "It was a great week in Florida with Governor Rick Scott crossing the state on this Victory Tour for teachers who will receive well-deserved pay raises. I also want to thank the Governor for joining us in applauding all of our educators during National Teacher Appreciation Week."

Hillsborough County Superintendent Maryellen Elia said, "Governor Rick Scott's strong leadership and unwavering commitment have made this a banner year for Florida's teachers. We applaud Governor Scott for his resilience during the legislative session and look forward to working with him as we move into the Common Core State Standards to prepare all students for college and career."

Alexander Elementary School Principal Kristina Alvarez said, "We are so excited to have Governor Rick Scott visit Alexander Elementary School to celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Day and teacher pay raises. His commitment to Florida's teachers is greatly appreciated."

Alexander Elementary School teacher Jeanette Lipstein said, "I appreciate Governor Rick Scott visiting Alexander Elementary and recognizing our hard work to improve student achievement. Rewarding us with a pay raise says it all."

Alexander Elementary School teacher Dina Perez said, "It is an exciting day at Alexander Elementary School. We appreciate Governor Scott for working so hard during the legislative session to secure a pay raise for Florida's teachers."
