Florida College System to Recognize Students for Academic Achievement and Community Service

Daytona Beach, Fla., April 9, 2013 - Today the Florida College System (FCS) will recognize the 2013 All-Florida Academic Team at Daytona State College. One-hundred and twenty two students representing the FCS and three students representing the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida were on hand to be honored.

"The All-Florida Academic Team includes the Florida College System's highest achievers who have demonstrated a commitment to academic achievement as well as service to their communities," said Chancellor Hanna. "I commend these students for their hard work."

Each year, the FCS recognizes outstanding students on the All-Florida Academic Team for academic achievement, leadership and community service. Colleges nominate students to the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by USA Today and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society. In conjunction with PTK, each year the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team.

The president of Bethune-Cookman University, Dr. Edison Jackson, will serve as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. In addition, members of the All-Florida Academic Team will be presented with medallions and Polk State College's Dr. Ken Ross will be honored with a 2013 PTK Distinguished College Administrator Award.

"The All-Florida Academic Team and Phi Theta Kappa provide students with excellent opportunities for student leadership and development," said Chancellor Hanna. "The Florida College System fosters environments that challenge students to succeed in all areas, and we are proud to recognize these students today."
