Dual Enrollment Toolkit Grant to Benefit Florida Students
Tallahassee, Fla., April 2, 2013 - The College of Central Florida is the recipient of a new grant that promotes student success in dual enrollment courses across the state. The Florida Department of Education issued the $100,000 Florida College System (FCS) Dual Enrollment Toolkit Grant to promote secondary-postsecondary collaboration and training to help students succeed in college-level courses.
Dual enrollment is an acceleration program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit. Dual enrollment courses are available on high school, career center or college campuses. These courses are a cost-free way for high school students to take rigorous courses that will count toward college completion.
"Florida's K-20 education system is a model for the nation," said Public Schools Chancellor Pam Stewart. "Our dual enrollment programs allow high school students to obtain college credit prior to graduation. Serving our students through dual enrollment is a testament to the strength of Florida's seamless education system."
All 28 FCS institutions have dual enrollment programs that enrolled 50,054 students in 2011-12. The FCS is the state's leading provider of dual enrollment opportunities, serving 83 percent of dual enrollment students.
Through the grant, all FCS institutions will have access to the Florida Dual Enrollment Springboard. The College of Central Florida will develop the springboard - through collaboration with the Florida Department of Education, Florida colleges and school districts - to include a comprehensive website, two sets of professional development tutorials and resources, and a student success preparation kit. The springboard will be available later this year.
"The Florida Dual Enrollment Springboard and legislative recognition of the cost and value of dual enrollments will go a long way toward greater acceleration of student learning and degree completions in Florida," said Dr. Jim Henningsen, College of Central Florida president. "We see dual enrollment as an important part of our overall efforts to achieve more for students and for Florida."

"Florida's students will benefit from increased collaboration and support services that will improve their success in dual enrollment courses.
