What They Are Saying... Florida's Education System Jumps to Top Ten in the Nation

Senator Bill Montford, CEO, Florida Association of District School Superintendents: "It is refreshing and encouraging to see that the hard work of our public school students, teachers and administrators is recognized, and clearly those efforts are reflective of the increase in Florida's Quality Counts ranking."

Florida State Board of Education Chairman Gary Chartrand: "Florida is a leader in education reform and our national ranking from Education Week's 2013 Quality Counts report strikingly signifies this point. Expecting higher achievement from our students and higher performance from our teachers has provided a solid foundation that will lead Florida's students to success in college and career."

Florida Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Mark Wilson: "Florida's bold education reform efforts have clearly put our state on the right track. While Florida has made great strides, there is still work to be done. To compete in the global marketplace, we must recognize that, just as society changes, so does the workforce. Florida's kids deserve better, and with America's new Common Core Standards and the leadership of our new Education Commissioner Dr. Tony Bennett, we will secure Florida's future with a globally competitive education system."

State Senator John Legg, Chair, Senate Education Committee: "In the past few years Florida's education system has faced the strain of economic downturn but done everything possible to maintain high-quality education for our students. Today's release of Education Week's 2013 Quality Counts report demonstrates that Florida is meeting the challenge head-on and working diligently as we move into full implementation of the Common Core State Standards, which are designed to prepare all students to be globally competitive for college and careers."

St. Johns River State College President Joe Pickens, Chair of the Council of Presidents for the Florida College System: "The Florida College System is pleased with the results of the 2013 Quality Counts report released today. The rankings show that Florida's education policies are aligned to work together in preparing students for success in higher education."

Seminole State College of Florida President Ann McGee: "The results from Education Week's 2013 Quality Counts report are promising for the state of Florida and the Florida College System. The findings show something we already know at our 28 community and state colleges: Florida is dedicated to bridging the gap between high school and college and careers."

Division of Florida Colleges Chancellor Randy Hanna: "The Florida College System proudly serves 65 percent of Florida's recent high school graduates. The 2013 Quality Counts report shows that Florida is on the right track to improving college and career readiness. We look forward to continued collaboration with our K-12 partners to help students become prepared for success beyond high school."

Florida State Board of Education Member Sally Bradshaw: "Florida's teachers, students, parents, and all education stakeholders should be proud of the significant jump our education system made in the 2013 Quality Counts ranking. It takes commitment to excellence and dedication to student achievement to perform at this level."

Florida State Board of Education Member Barbara Feingold: "Florida's education system ranks among the best in the nation because of the dedicated work of our teachers, students and parents. Accountability and benchmarks set the standards for high achievement. The result of Education Week's 2013 Quality Counts report indicates Florida is headed in the right direction when it comes to preparing our students for a successful future in college or the workforce."
