First Lady Ann Scott Takes Summer Reading Literacy Adventure to the Suwannee River

Florida's First Lady Ann Scott, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Department of State are heading to Fanning Springs State Park on Aug. 2 to encourage local students to read during the last few weeks of the summer break. During the event, Mrs. Scott will share a short reading passage with students while Fanning Springs State Park Manager Sally Lieb and Florida Park Service Director Donald Forgione highlight the park's beautiful manatees and crystal clear waters.

The Summer Literacy Adventure, launched in May by Mrs. Scott, invites students to pledge to read a certain number of books this summer. Students can take the pledge by visiting www.justreadflorida.com. A select school with the most participating students in the Summer Literacy Adventure will be recognized during the 2011-12 school year, and the Department of Environmental Protection will reward the winning school with a free pass to any state park.

The event will take place:
Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011
12:00 p.m. EDT
