Charter School Conference Kicks Off
Tallahassee, Fla., November 15, 2012 - The 16th Annual Charter School Conference kicked off today in Orlando with more than 750 participants registered to attend. The two-day conference features opening general session keynote speaker Dr. Deborah Kenney, founder and chief executive officer of Harlem Village Academies; luncheon speaker Byron Pitts, CBS Evening News chief national correspondent, 60 Minutes contributing correspondent, and author of Step Out On Nothing; and more than 80 breakout sessions featuring charter school best practices, education updates, and innovative teaching strategies that use technology to improve learning in the classroom."Florida is a leader in providing high quality educational options for all children," said Michael Kooi, executive director of the Department of Education's Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice. "The conference celebrates the success of Florida's charter schools and their unique ability to meet the needs of each student. By providing options, a student can choose the learning environment best suited to help them reach their highest level of achievement."
