Statement by Braulio Colon, Executive Director for Florida College Access Network, on Florida State Board of Education Strategic Plan for 2012-2018
"The Florida College Access Network supports any effort designed to prepare all students to be globally competitive for college and careers. Such efforts should involve analyzing data to make decisions around how best to reach that goal. The strategic plan adopted by the State Board of Education on October 9 rightly disaggregates the data and acknowledges where all students are today in terms of their proficiency in core subjects like English language arts, science, and mathematics. The plan strikes the right balance for holding schools accountable for moving the needle toward 100% proficiency for all students over time while setting aggressive short-term (5-year) improvement expectations for subgroups currently underperforming."
Florida College Access Network's mission is to create and strengthen a statewide network that catalyzes and supports communities to improve college & career preparation, access, and completion for all students. Our Big Goal is to increase the proportion of working-age adults in Florida who hold a high-quality postsecondary degree or credential to 60% by the year 2025.
