Florida's College System Tops National Rankings
- Colleges receive second national acclaim in a week -Tallahassee, Fla., June 25, 2012 - For the tenth year in a row, the Florida College System ranks among the top producers of associate degrees in the nation. The Top 100 Associate Degree Producers report released by Community College Week shows that Florida's colleges lead more than 1,200 colleges across the U.S. in a range of degree categories. Community College Week uses data from the National Center for Education Statistics to produce the rankings and the report.
"The Florida College System represents outstanding proof of our state's success in providing high-quality education for our students," said Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson. "I am extremely proud of our 28 state colleges and I congratulate them for this great achievement."
This is the second national recognition received by the Florida College System in the past week. Florida's colleges were acknowledged last week for leading the way in preparing students to join the labor force according to a national report card released by the Institute for a Competitive Workforce.
"Florida's College System has always been a national leader in the area of associate degree production and we look forward to continuing to provide high-quality, meaningful degrees to our students," said Florida College System Chancellor Randy Hanna. "I commend our colleges for their diligent work and I am confident that we will continue our success in this area."
Highlights of the 2012 Top 100 Associate Degree Producers report include
- Sixteen Florida colleges are among the top 100 producers of associate degrees.
- Fourteen Florida colleges were top producers of total associate degrees for all minority groups. Miami Dade College received first in the nation in this category.
- Ten Florida colleges were ranked in the number of associate degrees awarded to Hispanic students. Miami Dade College is ranked first in the nation in this category.
- Fourteen Florida colleges were named top producers of total associate degrees for African American students.
- Four Florida colleges were among the top 10 for associate degrees awarded in the area of Nursing.
- Six of Florida's colleges ranked among top producers of degrees in health professions and related clinical sciences.
