Florida's College System Receives High Marks on National Report
Tallahassee - June 20, 2012 - The Florida College System is leading the way in preparing students to join the labor force according to a national report card released today by the Institute for a Competitive Workforce. The report awarded Florida's College System with an "A" grade in the categories of Student Access & Success, and Efficiency & Cost-Effectiveness. Florida's grade in these groupings bettered states across the nation including California, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas.
"We are extremely pleased that Florida's colleges and universities have been recognized for the outstanding work that is being done throughout the state," said Florida College System Chancellor Randy Hanna. "I congratulate the 28 institutions in the Florida College System and we will remain focused on the areas of access and workforce development. While this report shows the good work being done at Florida's colleges, we look forward to using this data to make continued progress and additional improvements for our students and the State of Florida."
The report also highlighted Florida's colleges for the competitive cost per completion and state and local funding per completion ($21,115), which is in the top five of all states. The Florida College System continues to be the primary point of access to higher education in Florida, with 65 percent of the state's high school graduates pursuing postsecondary education at one of our colleges. Additionally, 82 percent of freshman and sophomore minority students in public higher education attend one of Florida's 28 colleges.
