K-12 and Florida College System Educators to Meet on College Readiness
- Two groups of educators will come together for the first time to collaborate on how to best prepare students for college -Tallahassee - More than 200 K-12 and Florida College System educators and administrators will gather at the 2012 Connections Conference at Santa Fe College in Gainesville on Thursday and Friday, April 12-13, to discuss the challenges of college readiness in Florida. Although this is the seventh such conference, it is the first to include the K-12 community.
"Many students enter college in Florida without the basic academic skills needed to be successful in their coursework. We're gathering with our K-12 partners to discuss ways of better preparing students for college success," said Florida College System Chancellor Randy Hanna. "We believe this collaboration is vital to finding strategies to improve basic skills."
Chancellor Hanna will serve as keynote speaker for the 7th Annual Connections Conference, which will address academic preparedness, learning strategies, diagnostic assessment and placement, and overcoming barriers to learning.
The theme of the two-day conference is "Solving the Student Success Puzzle - One Student at a Time." With a mix of speakers from Florida, including the Division of Florida Colleges, Division of Public Schools, and various Florida College System institutions, and across the country, including Education Commission of the States, Achieve, and Virginia's Community Colleges, the conference will provide meaningful and timely coverage on current trends in college and career readiness.
