Florida's Education Leaders Join Scaling Up Student Success National Leadership Forum
Tallahassee - Florida Department of Education K-12 Chancellor Pam Stewart and Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent MaryEllen Elia today will join education leaders from across the nation for an interactive panel discussion focused on improving student outcomes, effectively tying teaching to learning, and fundamentally ramping up the effective management of schools. The Education Week Scaling Up Student Success 2012 Leadership Forum is being held in Jersey City, N.J."Improving standards and student achievement is the foundation of Florida's conversation about Common Core and I am excited to collaborate with our peers on a national level," said Florida K-12 Chancellor Pam Stewart. "I look forward to sharing Florida's valuable perspective."
Chancellor Stewart will discuss the state's timeline for implementation of Common Core standards as well as professional development for Florida's educators and modifications to instructional materials and curricula. The state's Common Core standards timeline (PDF, File Not Found) includes full implementation by the 2014-15 school year. Florida Department of Education Deputy K-12 Chancellor Mary Jane Tappen and Superintendent Elia will continue this important discussion as participants in a second Education Week Leadership Forum on April 16, 2012, in Columbus, Ohio.
