Literacy League Videos Featuring Zora and Me and The Secret Life of Mitch Spinach Now Available

Tallahassee - The Florida Department of Education's interactive book club, Literacy League, is excited to announce the availability of the latest video installments of the books, Zora and Me by authors Victoria Bond and T.R. Simon, and The Secret Life of Mitch Spinach by Hillary Feerick-Hillenbrand and Jeff Hillenbrand.

"We are excited to be able to highlight Florida's authors through these Literacy League book selections," said Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson. "It is wonderful when books bring history and imagination together to engage students."

Zora and Me

The book is a fictional tale that follows the childhood adventures of Zora Neal Hurston. Told from the perspective of Zora's best friend Carrie, it includes mystery, confrontation of racial disparity and Zora's extensive tales - including a gator king.

The Secret Life of Mitch Spinach

This book offers a brief lesson about healthy eating habits. Mitch Spinach loves to eat fruits and vegetables; and, his high-powered fruit and vegetable smoothies give him special powers, such as super-sonic hearing and amazing night vision to tackle problems and solve mysteries at Sunchoke Elementary School.

Throughout the year, the Department's Literacy League book club connects prominent authors with Florida elementary and middle school students. Students submit questions about the book and the author responds via video. The Literacy League videos are available on the Department's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/educationfl.
