Florida First Lady to Visit Grassy Waters Elementary School

Tallahassee, Fla., September 23, 2014 – Tomorrow, Florida First Lady Ann Scott will visit Grassy Waters Elementary School in West Palm Beach. With more than 4,000 books read, Grassy Waters Elementary won the First Lady’s Summer Literacy Adventure. As the winner, each student and school employee will receive a family pass to a Florida state park and the school will get a certificate and100 books for their school library.

The First Lady’s Summer Literacy Adventure challenged students to read as many books as possible during the summer break. First Lady Scott visited state parks and encouraged children to keep reading while they enjoyed the natural beauty of Florida’s state parks.

Research shows that children who do not continue reading through the summer can lose a month or more of progress made during the school year. By encouraging their children to read, parents play an important role in ensuring every child reads at or above grade level.
