Governor Rick Scott Appoints Michael Olenick to State Board of Education

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of Michael Olenick to the State Board of Education.

Governor Scott said, “We are laser-focused on making sure all of our students are prepared for a great job when they graduate. That is why this year we are proposing to increase per-student K-12 funding to the highest level in Florida history and incentivize $10,000 STEM degrees at our state colleges. I know Michael shares our goal of making sure all of our students succeed in the classroom and I am pleased to appoint him to the State Board of Education today.”

Olenick, 62, of Palm City, is the vice president of corporate affairs and chief compliance officer of The Morganti Group. Previously, he served as the general counsel of Florida’s Department of Education, and also as Assistant State Attorney for Broward, St. Lucie, and Martin Counties. Olenick received a bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College and law degree from Nova Southeastern Law School. He fills a vacant seat and is appointed for a term beginning January 23, 2015, and ending December 31, 2016.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
