Commissioner Stewart Names 2017 School-Related Employee of the Year 
~ Pinellas County Food Service Manager earns $5,000 as top support employee ~

Orlando, Fla., April 21, 2017 – Today, Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart named David Melnick, a food service manager at Lake St. George Elementary School in Pinellas County, the 2017 School-Related Employee of the Year. David was selected among five statewide finalists and was recognized at an awards breakfast in Orlando.

“It is an honor to recognize David Melnick as the 2017 School-Related Employee of the Year,” said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. “Every single day he goes above and beyond for the students of Lake St. George Elementary School, and he is a great example of the tremendous impact that school support staff have on the entire community.”

“David Melnick understands the importance of supporting the whole child,” said Pinellas County Superintendent Dr. Michael Grego. “At Lake St. George Elementary, he established a Food Patrol Program which engages students in learning outside of the classroom while reinforcing healthy habits and responsibility. We are fortunate to have him as a Pinellas County Schools employee and congratulate him on being named the 2017 School-Related Employee of the Year.”

“As a teacher myself, I know firsthand how important it is for children to have extra motivation to do well in school, and that is exactly what Mr. Melnick has done for the students of Lake St. George Elementary School,” said Jessica Solano, 2017 Teacher of the Year. “It is an honor to recognize him today.” 

David Melnick is a Food Service Manager at Lake St. George Elementary School. During his tenure, he has changed the culture of Lake St. George with his leadership and concern for the students. He works tirelessly to contribute to the health, well-being and overall education for the students, going above and beyond his assigned responsibilities to serve the children, school and community. According to the Pinellas County Superintendent, his principal and the school’s teachers, the program has helped motivate students to do better in school.
