Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. Announces December Books of the Month
Tallahassee, Fla., December 20, 2024 – Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. announced December’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools. Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books– one per selected grade range. This month, the Commissioner encourages students to read stories about the reason for the holiday season.
“The holidays are a time for families to be together and create memories that last a lifetime,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “I encourage families to spend time with their loved ones this season and create new holiday memories by reading these timeless tales.”
The Commissioner’s recommendations for December 2024 are:
- PreK – The Berenstain Bears Christmas Tree by Stan and Jan Berenstain
- K-2 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss
- 3-5 – The 9 Candles of Hanukkah Tell the Tale by Noah Press
- 6-8 – The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
- 9-12 – “The Nativity” by Henry Vaughan
