Commissioner Diaz Announces More than $22 Million in Funding for Workforce Development Initiatives

Tallahassee, Fla., January 18, 2024 – Today, Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. announced an investment of over $22 million from the Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant Program to create or expand 30 programs dedicated to strengthening workforce development across Florida. It will provide Florida students the opportunity to have hands-on educational experiences in fields such as aerospace, biomedical science, digital video tech, aviation and more. This initiative reflects Governor Ron DeSantis’ continuing commitment to providing students with opportunities to explore high-demand jobs with high-wages without going into crippling debt.

“It is Governor Ron DeSantis' vision to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a rapidly changing workforce," said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. "This grant signifies our unwavering commitment to workforce development which unlocks a world of opportunities for our students."

The institutions receiving funding through the Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant in 2023-24 are:

  • Brevard County School District
  • Broward County School District
  • Charlotte County School District
  • Citrus County School District
  • Clay County School District
  • Collier County School District
  • Duval County School District
  • Flagler County School District
  • Gilchrist County School District
  • Hardee County School District
  • Highlands School District
  • Hillsborough County School District
  • Lafayette County School District
  • Lake County School District
  • Marion County School District
  • Miami Dade County School District
  • Okeechobee County School District
  • Orange County School District
  • Osceola County School District
  • Sarasota County School District
  • St. Johns County School District
  • Taylor County School District
  • Volusia County School District
  • Wakulla County School District
  • Walton County School District
  • Chipola College
  • Daytona State College
  • Lake-Sumter State College
  • Seminole State College of Florida

Today’s $22 million investment is part of a $100 million allocation made to the Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant Program. The program provides grants to school districts and Florida College System institutions to fund some or all of the costs associated with the creation or expansion of career and technical education (CTE) workforce development programs that serve lead to industry certifications included on the CAPE Industry Certification Funding List.
