Services

The Bureau of Student Achievement through Language Acquisition (SALA) staff provides assistance to schools, districts, school board personnel, teachers, parents, and community organizations in all areas of education for English Language Learners (ELLs) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program services. A toll-free Parent Hotline (800) 206-8956 is available to assist parents and community members. Assistance is available in English and Spanish.

The SALA Bureau administers funds to districts that receive state subgrants to support programs for ELLs. These programs are intended to provide needed resources to support high-quality instruction to help ELLs, immigrant children and youth meet the same challenging performance standards expected of all Florida students.

Technical assistance is provided through state and federal meetings, phone conferencing, email correspondence, and visits to schools and districts. The staff also presents at national and state level conferences.

The SALA Bureau maintains and has available listings of school district ESOL, Title III, World Language, and contacts in Florida.
